Tuesday Mornings

The Tuesday morning class will begin this fall by looking in depth at I Corinthians.  In this highly practical letter, Paul addresses problems that church members in Corinth struggled with as they tried to live faithfully amid a culture inhospitable to Christianity.  Even though our world is admittedly quite different, these letters continue to provide us with valuable insights.

Sunday morning classes will be suspended temporarily for an Advent Study Class for the Lenten Study session (see below).  The study on I Corinthians will resume after Easter.

WOMEN'S BIBLE STUDY –

SPRING SESSION

We will be using the study guide written by Paul Borthwick called "JOSEPH, How God Builds Character." Borthwick writes, "Joseph went through some hard times. He was sold into slavery and eventually imprisoned for years because of a false accusation. And yet Joseph was able to live in forgiveness and hope, and God did great things each step of the way. As we read his story, we will find our own place in the journey to seeing God's dreams fulfilled in and through us."

The new weekly class will begin on Tuesday, April 1 from 7 to 8 p.m. in room LL5, and end on May 27 with a combined last lesson and potluck supper at the home of Jan Maxwell. All women are welcome to join this 9 week study.

Call Jan Maxwell (248-474-7568) or see her after services to purchase the book. The cost of the book is $8.00

Disciple Classes

Disciple classes are 34-week, in-depth, intensive studies of the Bible.  Participants pray and read the Bible for 30-45 minutes each day to prepare for class which meets once a week for 2 ½ hours.  Class membership of up to 12 persons stays the same throughout the 34 sessions.  The purpose of Disciple is to transform lives through the disciplined study of scripture.

Disciple I moves through the Bible from Genesis to Revelation.  After completing Disciple I,  participants will have read 70% of the Bible.

The following Disciple Classes are options. Disciple I is generally considered to be required before the others, but the other three can be taken in any sequence. Cost of the class is generally about $30 to cover the participants manual..

Disciple: Into the Word Into the World. Move deeper into the word in this study of Genesis, Exodus, Luke and Acts. Study themes of pride, hospitality, patience, and humility while considering how we are called into ministry in the world around us. 32 weeks

Disciple: Remember Who You Are. This study confronts persistent questions like “What are my priorities?” and “How can I be a part of the obedient community?” Come study with Paul and the Prophets. 32 weeks

Disciple: Under the Tree of Life. The word ‘under’ is meant to convey a welcoming invitation to shelter, security, and rest in God’s love. Come and rest in the words of John, The Writings, and Revelation while we study the mystery and wonder of these books. 32 weeks

Now, in addition to the original Disciple classes, Cokesbury has published Disciple short term Bible Studies. Invitation to the Old Testament and Invitation to the New Testament are being offered as 8 week study classes of 1 ½ hrs. per week. Their participant books are $12 each.

Additional class options:

Christian Believer - Have you ever sung a hymn or recited a creed and asked, “Why do we say that?” Discover the church’s answer to questions that grow out of human life and Christian experience as you study church history and doctrine in this in- depth look at the classical doctrines. 30 weeks

Also, we will be offering a study called Beginnings..An Introduction to Christian Faith. This is a video based study that introduces seekers and new Christians as well as long time members to the Christian faith. It is designed for small- group setting where people can ask questions, explore their walk with God, and form and deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ and the Christian community. Participants guide is $8.50
