Boundaries and Assertiveness in Pastoral Care
Getting close to anger
In pastoral Care
Samaritan
Counseling Center
Lay Caregiver
Series
Sunday, april 20, 2008
2:30 – 4:30 p.m.
Anger is not always an obvious center-stage rage, but
can have subtle manifestations from behind the
back-stage curtain. This universal emotion with various
forms is often the venom that destroys
so many relationships in marriage, family, work, leaving
others hurt and isolated.
Who in their right mind wants to get close to someone
who strikes with their temper? In pastoral care we are
called to be present with those who are troubled,
confused and hurting, even angry. Through this workshop
participants will discover the wonderful tool that anger
brings for uncovering the true needs of the individual –
helping him/her move toward emotional and spiritual
health.
Staff Counselor, Dr. Nicholas Phillips, LLMFT, will lead
participants in an understanding of anger, its forms,
its misconceptions, and its destructive cycle. The
class will learn how to assist care-receivers to choose
a healthy path of expression.
The workshop will be held at: Nardin Park UMC
29887 W.
Eleven Mile Road, Farmington
(S side of Eleven Mile just W of Middlebelt)
The cost of the workshop is $10. Please make
checks payable to Samaritan Counseling Center. You may
call SCC office at 248-474-4701 for more
information or to register. You must register by
April 17th if planning to attend.

Marriage Encounter Weekend
Start
your summer renewing your romance
and
surprise your kids with parents who aren’t afraid to
show their love.
The
weekend is for couples of all ages, stages and faiths
who sincerely want to grow and live out vows made on
their wedding day. The program is unique in that it is
a very positive and private experience. You are not
required to share with anyone but your spouse.
Marriage Encounter
helps you examine where you are in your relationship
with each other, think about where you want to be and
plan how to get there. This process encourages you to
identify weak and strong points of your relationship and
understand where you are in your thoughts about
marriage. Couples often make meaningful discoveries
about each other and the possibilities for their future
together.
These weekends are carefully structured to present
significant ideas about marriage and effective
communication in an interesting and understandable
manner.
Enjoy 44 hours from Friday evening to Sunday
afternoon focusing on each other in a beautiful
country setting. The next United Methodist Marriage
Encounter in Michigan is at Youth Haven Ranch near
Jackson, May 20 – June 1. Supported by
contributions only, actual expenses average less than
$300 per couple, including a $50 non-refundable
registration fee.
