LOGOS OUTREACH 2008
We’re Not ‘Kid’ding, 1000 Books
Gets the Goat!!
From
January 17 until April 3rd
the LOGOS kids will be participating in
the “Read to Feed” program
sponsored by Heifer International. The
kids will be logging all books read
during this 75 day period and getting
sponsors to pledge either a flat
donation or donation per book read. We
are setting a goal of 1,000 books or 35
books/child. The kids will also track
which books are “Heifer Picks” or books
from the church library. The kids with
the most books read from both categories
will get a special reward on April 3rd.
At LOGOS on April 3rd,
each dinner table will choose their
animal gift(s) based on the money they
have raised. The animal gifts range
from $20 for a flock of chicks to $1000
for four milk-producing animals. During
the Outreach nights at LOGOS, the kids
will be learning how these animals have
changed lives for families. The key to
success of the program is that Heifer
provides extensive training in animal
care, ecologically sound agriculture
practices and community development.
Another key cornerstone of Heifer
International is "passing on the gift."
Families who receive an animal repay the
loan by passing on one or more of the
animals' offspring to other needy
families. Therefore, one gift
multiplies through the community.
We are very excited to participate in
the Read to Feed Program and we’d love
it
if you would be a part of it to! You
can get involved by sponsoring an
individual Logos child or by making a
pledge to donate based on our total
number of books read. Come see our
posterboards at the back of Wesley Hall
and see how we are graphing our progress
to 1000 books. We have pledge sheets
there for anyone who is interested. If
you have any questions on the program or
would like to make a donation or sponsor
a child, contact Heather Shymanski at

AN INVITATION TO CONFIRMATION
We offer Confirmation Classes for
all young people eighth
grade and older. The class will meet on Thursdays from
late September until early May concurrent with the LOGOS program
from 5:45 - 7:30. The class will include the dinner hour
and class time. For us, the dinner time is a very important
aspect of our program because it gives us the extra time for
fellowship and sets a more comfortable and relaxed atmosphere
for class. [If you are bringing other members of your family to
LOGOS at an earlier time, a study area for the confirmand could
be provided.]
 Confirmation
Class will offer your youth an opportunity to learn about the
Christian faith, Christian beliefs, ways of putting faith into
action, what it means to be a church member and more
particularly, what it means to be United Methodist. We are
hoping once again to include mentors from our congregation to
work with our confirmands. We will also be providing some extra
activities and field trips.
Following the confirmation classes, each confirmand may choose
to be confirmed as a member or may choose to wait until a later
date. We encourage them to take their commitment very
seriously.
If your youth is interested in being part of this Confirmation
Class, please call the church office at (248) 474-6573 and let
us know so that we may have the necessary materials prepared
before the first class begins.
The cost of our program which includes dinner and materials will
be $65. Should cost be a problem, please do not hesitate to
call us.
We are looking forward to our time with the
class,
Sherry Young & Rev. Carolyn Wik
