Worship Schedule

Come and worship

The first service at 9:30 AM is a traditional service, using the historic creeds, hymns, worship patterns and liturgies as elements of the service.  The second service at 11:15 AM is a casual service that incorporates contemporary Christian music in a traditional format.  It draws on liturgical and historical resources, as well as creative and contemporary resources.  Both services are one hour in length.  In both services children are invited to attend worship with their families, and then they may attend church school classes after the children’s moment.  Following both worship services a fellowship time with refreshments occurs in Wesley Hall (lower level) after the 1st service or in the Markham Room (the parlor adjacent to the sanctuary) after the 2nd service.

April 6, 2008 – 3rd Sunday of Easter

The apostle Peter writes to a suffering church that God has given us “a new birth into a living hope.”  This new birth comes to us through the enduring work of Jesus, the living Word.  This hope takes on added significance when we tap into the staying power inherent in the “living hope.”  Please read 1 Peter 1:3-5, 17-23 for Rev. Dr. Maxwell’s sermon, “Going the Distance.”  Holy Communion will be celebrated.

April 13, 2008 – 4th Sunday of Easter

Our Katrina Mission team will make a presentation on their most recent trip to the Gulf Coast.

April 20, 2008 – 5th Sunday of Easter

Peter, whose name means “rock”, writes about “living stones.”  He reminds his readers that God intends to use “living stones” to make a spiritual house.  It is also true these living stones are very precious and valuable.  Who are these “living stones?”  Please read 1 Peter 2: 2-10 for Rev. Dr. Maxwell’s sermon, “When God Shows Off.”

April 27, 2008 – 6th Sunday of Easter

Once again Peter returns to the hope that is ours through faith in Jesus, a hope that can give courage and resilience.  We need never fear or be intimidated by whatever might come our way.  Enduring hardship is difficult but we have a secret source that needs to be claimed and made known.  Please read 1 Peter 3:13-22 for Rev. Dr. Maxwell’s sermon, “No Fear.”
