TENTH DAY OF ADVENT

The Advent prayer for Tuesday, December 6, 2002, comes to us from: Hark the Herald Angels Sing: Daily Prayers for Advent by Stephenie Hovland

16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.

Matthew 5:16 NRSV

Friends,

One of the hallmarks of this time of year are the various and sometimes elaborate Christmas light displays. Many subdivisions and neighborhoods sponsor contests for the most festive yard decorations. The wonder and amazement as young face’s view lawn inflatables, dancing lights, and holiday signs. In the gospel of Matthew, Jesus says to us that we are the light of the world. Verse 16 paints a clear picture, we are to let our light shine to bring glory to God. Just like the elaborate Christmas light displays draw people to our neighborhoods, we are to let our lights shine to bring others to God.

Advent Prayer – Day 10

Dear Lord, we know people do not become angels, but we do like being labeled as “angels on earth.” When we work on your behalf, carrying out your will, help us put aside our egos and truly give glory to you. Let us do things for you and for others, not for vanity and recognition. Keep us humble in service. Amen.
