TRUSTING IN love

Saturday, the fourth week of advent devotion comes from Michael Hoy's, "Light of Grace: Devotions for Advent."

For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.

John 3:16 NRSV

Author's Reflection

Jesus speaks these words of God's amazing love in John 3:16 not only for Nicodemus, who visited him under the shadow of darkness one night, but for us all. The grace of this promising word is that God loves this incredibly sinful and dark, perishing world and is willing to give his only Son for its wholeness and redemption.

Jesus was willing to lay down his life for us all. Jesus, rejected by the world on the cross, is the light of love. But oh how Christ, that light of love, lights up the night! The light of grace comes to us so dearly, so lovingly, in Jesus, who offers us his very self, that we may not perish but may have eternal life.

Author's Prayer

Lord, light of love, you were born into this world so that we may not perish, but be graced with life through you. Amen.
